Subject Fitness Payment for Fiscal Years 1999-2000, 2000-2001, 2001-2002
Purpose To notify the Division of State Police of the procedures for processing fitness payments.
Payment Date Payments may be submitted in pay period 18L/19C, check dated 12/19/01.
Affected Employees Troopers in Bargaining Unit 07, Commissioned/Non-Commissioned Officers in Bargaining Unit 17, Investigator and Senior Investigators in Bargaining Unit 62.
Contract Provisions and Eligibility Criteria Chapters 8, 9 and 10 of the Laws of 2001 provides for an annual Fitness Bonus payment.

Effective for the periods FY's 1999-2000, 2000-2001 and 2001-2002, members who are found eligible pursuant to th4e standards developed by the Division of State Police in FY 2001-2002 shall be deemed to have satisfied such standards in the two prior fiscal years.

The payment for fiscal years 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 will be based on the bargaining unit to which a member was assigned during the first pay period of the respective fiscal year.

The payment for fiscal years 2001-2002 will be based on the Bargaining Unit to which a member was assigned on the date they participated in the physical fitness test.

Members in BU 07, 17 and 62 who retired or deceased during the period 4/1/99-3/31/00 shall receive ONE Fitness Bonus payment and members in BU 07, 17 and 62 who retired or deceased during the period 4/1/00-3/31/01 shall receive TWO Fitness Bonus payments if the member satisfied the FY 1998-1999 Fitness requirements.

Members in BU 62 who retired or deceased in the period from April 1, 2001 to June 30, 2001 shall receive THREE Fitness Bonus payments if that member satisfied FY 1998-1999 fitness requirements.
Processing Procedure To pay eligible employees, enter a separate code and row in the Additional Pay Panel for EACH fiscal year an employee is due payment using the following earn codes:

Earn End Date: 3/27/02*

To pay employees who are Retired or Deceased, use the appropriate code(s) and date(s) for each fiscal year payment that is due as shown above.

*For employees who are no longer in an eligible Bargaining Unit the earn end date should be the last date the employee was eligible for the earnings to be included in the O.T. Calculation.

If, after the payment is made, the employee goes into an ineligible Bargaining Unit, the agency must insert a row to end the O.T. eligibility by entering the following in the Additional Pay panel:

Payroll Register and Employee's Check/Advice The earnings codes FTA, FT2 and/or FT1 and the amounts will be displayed on the payroll register. The earnings descriptions Fitness Bonus, Fitness Bonus 2000 and/or Fitness Bonus 1999 will be displayed on the employee's pay stub/advice.
