Selected Auxiliary Enterprises at Bernard M. Baruch College and John Jay College of Criminal Justice (Follow-Up Review)

Each of the eleven senior colleges in the City University of New York (CUNY) maintains an Auxiliary Enterprise, which is a not-for-profit corporation that operates and promotes services (such as food service and bookstores) for the campus community. In our initial audit report 2000-S-44, we examined selected aspects of contract administration and revenue and cash control at the Auxiliary Enterprises of two senior colleges: Bernard M. Baruch College and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. We found that food service contracts at both colleges were not being periodically updated and rebid, and vendors at both colleges were consistently late in making required payments to the colleges. We also identified weaknesses in controls over cash at Baruch College. In our follow-up review, we found that progress had been made in implementing the recommendations contained in our initial report.
