Long Island Power Authority
Vehicle Acquisition, Use and Disposition The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) is the primary supplier of electricity on Long Island. We found that certain improvements were needed in the controls over LIPA’s acquisition, use and disposition of vehicles. For example, LIPA did not always purchase new vehicles through available State contracts, did not always accurately identify vehicles in its inventory records, and did not have written policies and procedures to ensure its interests were adequately protected when its vehicles were disposed of by a private company.
