Superstorm Sandy
While our communities work to recover from this historic natural disaster, I want to extend both my concern and assistance. As a New Yorker and Long Islander, I understand the vast challenges we all face in the coming months. Please rest assured that my office will be taking immediate steps to help ease some of the burden.
While addressing infrastructure and civic needs, we want local government leaders to know that our regional offices are available to offer any technical assistance they may require. This includes guidance on short-term borrowing to help rebuild or repair our communities, as well as assistance with financial reporting systems.
Also, for the municipalities and school districts that my office is currently auditing, we will suspend our audit until emergency conditions have subsided. We want to ensure that the attention and resources of local officials are concentrated on the needs of their residents during this crisis.
Additionally, we will not penalize any local government that cannot comply with the upcoming annual tax levy limit reporting requirement due to the impact of the storm. If requested, my staff can help municipalities with their property tax cap calculation and filing requirement.
My office stands ready to provide any guidance that our communities may need. Please contact us at 518-473-0006 if you have questions or need assistance.
