Purpose of Audit

The purpose of our audit was to examine the District’s claims auditing process for the period July 1, 2014 through January 13, 2016.

Background

The South Orangetown Central School District is located in the Town of Orangetown in Rockland County. The District, which operates four schools with approximately 3,170 students, is governed by an elected five-member Board of Education. Budgeted appropriations for the 2015-16 fiscal year were approximately $86 million.

Key Finding

  • District officials have established effective procedures to ensure that claims are adequately documented and supported, are for legitimate District purposes and are approved prior to payments.
