What kind of computer system do I need to file electronically?

A computer with a Pentium processor (or equivalent) running a Microsoft Windows environment. EFS is designed to run in Windows XP or Windows Vista. The software may not operate properly in prior versions of Windows.

  • 60 Megabytes of available space on the hard drive
  • 32 Megabytes of RAM
  • Modem-28.8 baud rate or higher

I’m on a network, how do I install the software?

If your computer is on a network, and you do not have rights to install software on your computer, please have your System Administrator install the Electronic Filing Software on your computer. Installation steps for System Administrators are found in the Electronic Filing Software User Guide.

Do I need to be connected to the internet the entire time I’m using the software?

No, the only time you need to be connected to the internet is while you’re retrieving your prior year data file, and submitting your finished report.

What if I didn’t file electronically last year?

You still have the option of filing electronically. OSC will provide you with the electronic data necessary to file your report. New software users who need assistance can contact OSC by sending an email to AFRFILE@osc.state.ny.us or by calling 518-474-4014 during business hours.
