2015 Portfolio Engagements

Message from Comptroller DiNapoli

Over the past year we achieved remarkable success, reaching agreements with half of the 48 corporations with which we filed shareholder resolutions. The resulting changes in their corporate operations—to voluntarily disclose political spending, to ensure the rights of LGBT employees, and to commit to lower greenhouse gas emissions—were not just the right thing to do, they were the smart thing to do financially for these companies and their investors. Responsible corporate behavior helps sustain profitability.

What We Achieved in the Past Year

  • 48 Shareholder resolutions

We filed shareholder resolutions with 48 companies with a combined portfolio value in excess of $4.7 billion.

  • 24 Corporate Agreement

We were able to reach agreements or change company policy with 24 corporations, up from 19 in 2014.

  • 33% Shareholder Support

The 23 resolutions that came to a vote averaged 33% shareholder support, up from 26.4% in 2014 and 24.5% in 2013.

  • 3 Resolution Approved

Three of our resolutions achieved majority support from shareholders and, as a result, have been adopted by the respective company.
