DiNapoli Taps Former Top Senate Fiscal Expert
to Review State Budgets

Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced today that he has named Mary Louise Mallick, one of the state government’s top fiscal experts and a former key aide to the Senate Majority, as deputy comptroller for budget and policy analysis.

Mallick will head the group that conducts review and analysis of the state budget by the Comptroller’s Office. The Office of Budget and Policy Analysis also conducts ongoing evaluation of the state’s fiscal condition and debt management and examines a wide range of issues relating to state programs and operations.

“Mary Louise Mallick’s great expertise and decades of experience shaping the state budget and analyzing state finances are widely known. Her knowledge and skills have long been recognized and respected by those of all political backgrounds in Albany,” DiNapoli said. “I have tremendous confidence in her and I am pleased that she has agreed to continue her distinguished government career at the Comptroller’s Office.”

As secretary of the New York State Senate Finance Committee, Mallick was instrumental in developing the state budget, directed financial analysis, helped to develop new programs and legislation and managed the committee’s staff. She was previously director of budget studies at Senate Finance.

Mallick left the Senate at the end of 2006 and was acting executive director of the State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany Biosciences Development Corporation.

A graduate of SUNY Buffalo, Mallick earned Master of Arts degrees in bioethics, from Union College / Albany Medical College and in economics, from SUNY Buffalo.

Mallick’s salary will be $158,093.
