Comptroller DiNapoli Releases Audits

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced that the following audits have been issued:

• Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities - Metro New York Developmental Disabilities Services Office Internal Controls Over Payroll and Purchasing Practices (Follow-Up Report 2007-F-47): A prior audit found problems with the DDSO’s internal controls over payroll and purchasing practices. For example, several paychecks were issued to individuals after their employment had ended and the DDSO’s budget for overtime was unrealistically low. When auditors followed up on their previous audit recommendations, they found that they had, for the most part, been implemented.
• Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities - Capital District Developmental Disabilities Services Office Selected Financial Management Practices (Follow-Up Report 2007-F-45):  A prior audit found weaknesses in recordkeeping, procurement practices and controls over overtime. The follow up audit found the agency had made improvements.
• Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance - Security Over Personal Information (2007-S-78): Auditors examined the collection and maintenance of personal information by OTDA. Auditors found OTDA was only collecting personal information from the public which was needed to perform its mission, and had generally taken appropriate steps to ensure the security of that information. Auditors also found that OTDA was prepared to follow statutory requirements should personal information in its possession be breached.
