DiNapoli Statement on the Death of Senator Kennedy

The passing of Senator Edward Kennedy is a profound loss for our nation.

During his 47 years in the U.S. Senate, Senator Kennedy provided courageous leadership through countless battles, always standing up for the less fortunate in our society. He championed civil rights, health care reform, voting rights and education in amassing an incredible record of achievement during his decades of public service.

Senator Kennedy was a larger-than-life figure who will be remembered not just as one of the most respected and influential legislators of our time, but as a man who could, to paraphrase the Senator himself, inspire all of us, lift our vision, summon our hopes and renew our belief that our country’s best days are still to come.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Senator Kennedy’s family in this time of mourning.
