Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli Statement on the Passing of Former Governor Hugh L. Carey

"Like all New Yorkers, I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of our most outstanding citizens, Governor Hugh L. Carey. During his tenure as Governor, Hugh Carey shone most brightly when the people of New York needed him most. He led New York State through one of its most difficult and challenging periods and he accomplished so much by emphasizing shared sacrifice and common goals. Throughout his many years of public service in Washington and Albany, Governor Carey fought for the dignity of the most vulnerable among us.  A dedicated public servant and devoted family man, he will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know him. We are a better, stronger state thanks to Hugh Carey. My prayers are with the Carey family on the loss of their beloved father and grandfather."
