Comptroller DiNapoli Releases School Audit

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced his office completed an audit of the New Roots Charter School.

"My office's audits of school districts and BOCES help schools improve their financial management practices," DiNapoli said. "These audits are tools for schools to make sure proper policies and procedures are in place to protect taxpayer dollars and provide students with the best possible education."

Auditors found the charter school manager properly billed all 17 "feeder" districts for the number of enrolled students. Although some districts were not billed at the correct tuition rates, the amounts by which these districts were under-billed or over-billed were minor. Auditors identified six contracts and three purchases totaling approximately $917,900 that required board approval. However, no documentation exists to show the board approved six of these nine transactions, totaling approximately $172,000.
