DiNapoli Appoints Becker to Head Policy Effort
State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced today that he named Margaret Becker as deputy comptroller for budget and policy analysis.
Becker will head the group that reviews and analyzes the state budget and formulates fiscal policy. The Office of Budget and Policy Analysis also conducts ongoing evaluations of the state’s fiscal condition and debt management, and examines a wide range of issues related to state programs and operations.
“Margaret Becker understands how state government operates. She has held several leadership positions in state agencies and understands the complexities of the state’s budget process and finances,” DiNapoli said. “Her experience will be a great asset as we move forward.”
Becker started her career in state government in 1982. She has held deputy and director positions at several state agencies and public authorities, including the state Office for Technology, state Department of Agriculture and Markets, Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and the state Division of the Budget. She was most recently the deputy chief information officer at the Office of the Chief Information Officer/Office for Technology, where she has been employed since 2005.
A graduate of SUNY Albany, Becker also holds a Masters of Public Administration degree from the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy.
Her salary will be $158,093. She starts her new position January 10.
