Comptroller DiNapoli Releases Municipal Audits

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced his office completed the audits of the Town of Fenton and the Town of Troupsburg.

“My office's audits of local governments improve their financial management practices," DiNapoli said. "These audits are tools for local officials to make sure proper policies and procedures are in place to protect taxpayer dollars and provide the best possible service these taxpayer dollars can deliver."

Town of Fenton – Selected Town Clerk’s Receipts (Broome County)
The town clerk did not ensure that receipts were properly recorded and deposited timely and intact, nor did she provide adequate oversight of the employees that collect money in her office. The town board has not adopted any policies to adequately address the risks identified in the audit.

Town of Troupsburg – Internal Controls Over Information Technology (Steuben County)
The town board has not established adequate internal controls over the town’s information technology system. The town lacks policies and procedures related to acceptable use, data backup and computer security, and the board has not adopted a disaster recovery plan. Further, the town board has not adopted a data breach policy as required by law.
