DiNapoli Signs Executive Order on Ethics
Detailed Guidelines to Apply to all Employees, Including Comptroller
New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today signed a multi-faceted executive order detailing ethics rules and principles that apply to all employees of the Comptroller’s Office – including the Comptroller.
“This Executive Order is an important step toward restoring public confidence in the Comptroller’s Office and ensuring that we maintain the highest professional standards,” DiNapoli said. “As Comptroller, I must set an example – for our staff, as well as for the agencies, authorities and local governments we audit. So, the provisions of the Executive Order apply to me and to every Comptroller’s Office employee across the state.”
The Executive Order takes effect immediately and covers a range of issues including use of agency phones and computers and accepting of gifts or gratuities. It also bans employees from making campaign contributions to the Comptroller, asking job applicants their political party affiliation, or participating in a hiring or contracting decision that involves a family member.
The Executive Order issued today is the first of several directives relating to ethics and employee conduct to be issued by Comptroller DiNapoli in the coming months.
