Statement From State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli on Appointment of Kirsten Gillibrand as U.S. Sentator

Hillary Clinton was a fighter for New York and Kirsten Gillibrand will be that same kind of fighter. She knows Washington and she knows the struggles of New York families. New Yorkers need Senator Gillibrand and Senator Chuck Schumer to be strong voices for them in the Senate during these very challenging times.

Governor Paterson had an abundance of great candidates to fill this Senate seat. It’s heartening that so many exceptional New Yorkers are willing to lend their energy and wisdom to serving the people of our state. We’ll need every ounce of their energy, wisdom and leadership to help New York rise up and meet the challenges before us.
