DiNapoli's Office Completes Local Government Audit

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced his office completed the audit of the Village of Tuckahoe Justice Court.

DiNapoli’s auditors reviewed the court’s internal controls and found that duties were properly segregated, cash transactions were properly initiated, recorded and documented, and adjudicated cases were reported timely to the state Justice Court Fund (JCF) each month. In addition, the board engaged the services of a certified public accountant, who annually audits the court records. However, the court clerk did not make timely deposits to the bank. Although the court clerk prepared deposit slips daily as she received money, and stored them in a safe, she did not make the deposits immediately or within 72 hours. Instead, she made deposits weekly; the day after the justice held court. She explained this has been the procedure followed for years. For a copy of the audit, click here.
