DiNapoli Statement on the Earthquake in Haiti
The tragedy of yesterday’s catastrophic earthquake in Haiti resonates deeply with all New Yorkers. More than 125,000 Haitian-Americans live in New York, making this a disaster that hits close to home. My condolences go out to those who have lost friends and family members in and around Port-au-Prince, and my thoughts and prayers are with those who are waiting to hear from relatives and friends in the region. My office is ready to assist with relief efforts in Haiti in any way possible. Americans are known for our extraordinary generosity and compassion to nations in need, and I urge us all to support President Obama’s commitment of full assistance to our neighbors in Haiti.
