DiNapoli's Auditors Begin Work at SUNY Research Foundation

A team of auditors from State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli’s office began its onsite probe of the State University of New York (SUNY) Research Foundation at 9 a.m. this morning. The team will investigate hiring and pay practices, potential conflicts of interest and the financial relationship between SUNY and the Foundation.

“Our goal is to ensure accountability and openness at the Research Foundation for all New Yorkers,” DiNapoli said.

The Comptroller has explicit authority to audit the Research Foundation’s financial operations under a 1977 agreement between the Research Foundation and SUNY.

The investigative team is led by the supervisor of the Comptroller’s Fraud and Forensic Audit Unit. DiNapoli’s office sent an audit engagement letter to SUNY Chancellor Dr. Nancy Zimpher last week.
