Statement by Comptroller Hevesi on Erie County Control Board
New York State Comptroller Alan G. Hevesi issued the following statement
today in response to an announcement by the Governor and Legislative
leaders of an agreement to create the Erie County Fiscal Stability
Authority. Earlier this month, the Comptroller’s Office issued
a review of Erie County’s finances, identified a 2005 budget
deficit of $118 million as of March 31, 2005, and recommended the creation
of a control board.
“This is good news for the people of Erie County. Creation of
a financial control board is the first step toward restoring Erie County’s
financial health. I congratulate the Governor and Legislative leaders,
especially the Erie County delegation.”
