DiNapoli Announces Online Tutorials
Use of New Technologies Provides Free
Training to Local Government Officials
State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli has launched the first in a series of free on-line tutorials which are designed to help local government and school district officials improve their working knowledge of financial best practices.
“Budgets are tight and resources are limited,” DiNapoli said. “Local governments and school districts have to manage carefully and maximize resources. The on-line tutorials will provide free training on a range of financial topics to help build knowledge and implement best practices at the local level in a cost-effective way."
The first tutorial covers effective cash management. Although vast differences exist in the size and nature of local governments and school districts, and the dollar value of their investment transactions, the concepts covered in the tutorial can be applied to any type of government unit. It serves as a beneficial starting point for new staff with cash management duties.
The online tutorials are part of a comprehensive effort by DiNapoli to improve access to training for local government officials. In September, DiNapoli announced the creation of the online Local Government Training Clearinghouse, a convenient, centralized Web site that provides local government officials with information about training events in their region and around the state.
Additional guidance for local officials is also available by downloading OSC's Local Management Guides.
