DiNapoli Launches Local Official Training Web Site

Local Government Training Clearinghouse Offers Convenient, One-Stop Shopping

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced today the creation of the online Local Government Training Clearinghouse, which will provide local government officials with information about training events in their region and around the state. The Clearinghouse was developed with the assistance of Cornell University’s Community and Rural Development Institute (CaRDI), and is intended to provide local officials a convenient, centralized place to get important training information. Professionally-recognized training organizations will be able to schedule their training events on the Clearinghouse Web site as well.

“Local officials often don’t get the training they need because they’re unaware of the services that are available,” said DiNapoli. “The Clearinghouse will give them one-stop shopping convenience, providing access to the training local officials need to provide the best, cost-effective service possible for their constituents. The experts at Cornell University were great partners in this project.”

“CaRDI views the training of local government officials as a key strategy to help New York communities meet their current challenges. Community and economic development in New York State in the 21st century requires educated leaders with the skills to develop and implement sustainable development strategies,” said Rod Howe, executive director of CaRDI.

This joint venture between the Comptroller’s Office and CaRDI includes training information from the New York State Department of State, Association of Towns of the State of New York, New York State Conference of Mayors and Municipal Officials and the Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York. Through links on this site, local officials can search and find detailed information about various training events, visit the Web site of the organization sponsoring the training, and register for certain programs. The database will be regularly updated.
