VLT Contract Delivered to DiNapoli's Office Today
The signed, executed contract for video lottery terminals at Aqueduct Racetrack was delivered to State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli’s office today, Wednesday, September 8 at 4:15 p.m.
“We have been actively reviewing the VLT procurement, including the draft contract, since the Division of the Lottery awarded it three weeks ago,” DiNapoli said. “Now that we have the executed contract with the right approvals, we can move forward to complete our review.
“After nearly a decade of false starts and broken promises, I understand the sense of urgency to get this contract approved. But the VLT contract involves hundreds of millions of dollars. It’s a 30-year license that carries the future of New York’s racing industry on its back. Thoroughness must not be sacrificed for expediency. I must take every step to ensure the taxpayers are safeguarded in this contract. It’s New Yorkers’ money; it’s my job to protect it.”
DiNapoli said his office had requested some additional information from Lottery. He said, pending a timely and acceptable response from Lottery, his office should complete its review of the contract no later than Tuesday.
