DiNapoli Releases Financial Football 2.0
Money Management Game Improves the Financial Literacy of New York Teenagers
New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today launched the improved Financial Football 2.0 game in conjunction with the one year anniversary of his Your Money New York web site (www.yourmoneynewyork.com). As part of an ongoing financial literacy effort, DiNapoli is collaborating with the National Football League (NFL) and Visa Inc. to release Financial Football 2.0, an NFL-themed educational video game that combines the excitement of football with financial education questions of varying difficulty to create an innovative approach for helping children and adults learn about money management.
“Now more than ever, it’s important for young New Yorkers to understand how money works,” said Comptroller DiNapoli. “Financial Football 2.0 is a great way to get students interested in personal finances and give them a financial playbook they can use for the rest of their lives. This is a great program and a great partnership between my Office, Visa and the NFL.”
Financial Football 2.0 is an engaging, fast-paced game that also includes companion classroom lesson modules for teachers who want to expand and reinforce financial lessons for students. The four modules, each designed for a standard class period, cover skills and information to help students build strong financial futures. The new release is available in English or Spanish and can be played online or ordered at no cost online at www.yourmoneynewyork.com or www.newyork.financialfootball.com.
DiNapoli said Financial Football challenges players to answer multiple-choice money management questions correctly and advance down the field for a chance to score a touchdown. Financial Football offers single player and head-to-head game play options. This game features three difficulty levels – Rookie (ages 11–14), Pro (ages 14–18) or Hall of Fame (ages 18+). Players can select from 42 offensive plays, including running and passing options. There are also defensive opportunities which allow players to stop their opponents from advancing by answering a question correctly.
