DiNapoli: See If You Are Owed Some Of NY's $10.5b in Unclaimed Funds at The Great Irish Fair

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli will attend this year’s Great Irish Fair on Saturday, September 18. Staff from DiNapoli’s office will be on hand to help New Yorkers find out if they are owed some of the state’s billions in unclaimed funds.

“New York has $10.5 billion in unclaimed fund accounts. We want to return this money to its rightful owners,” DiNapoli said. “The money belongs to New Yorkers. We want to give it back.  Our unclaimed funds booth is a great opportunity for New Yorkers to make a fun day at the Great Irish Fair a profitable day, too. ”

DiNapoli’s Office of Unclaimed Funds is a division of the New York State Comptroller’s Office responsible for obtaining, tracking and disseminating claims of abandoned property.  Unclaimed funds are abandoned property that banks and corporations are required to turn over to the State Comptroller’s office after an account has been dormant for a period of time.

Representatives from DiNapoli’s office will be at the Great Irish Fair all weekend to assist residents in claiming their money. New Yorkers and others may also check for unclaimed funds at www.osc.state.ny.us or by calling toll free at 1-800-221-9311.

The Great Irish Fair
In 1982, the Brooklyn Chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) founded the Great Irish Fair of New York (GIF) as an annual event celebrating Irish culture and heritage.  In 2007, the event was sponsored and organized by the Irish American Building Society Charities, Inc. (IABSC), a duly licensed and registered not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation whose mission is to carry on the Irish American tradition of giving. All net proceeds derived from the 2010 GIF are donated to a charitable fund for the benefit of Brooklyn Diocesan Catholic Elementary Schools.

For more information or to check if you are owed unclaimed funds, check the Comptroller’s website at www.osc.state.ny.us or by calling the toll-free number at 1-800-221-9311 from Monday through Friday.
