"The 9/11 attacks united New York, America and nations around the world in a way not seen in decades. We stood together bonded by the knowledge that those who espouse terror, violence and hatred can never win. Our strength is in our resilience and our love of freedom. Today, with our nation seeming more divided than it has been in decades, we should strive to reclaim that sense of unity and shared purpose we held in the aftermath of 9/11. I can think of no better way to honor the men and women who lost their lives. We remember all the victims and heroes of September 11, 2001, a day that is seared in the hearts of all New Yorkers."
