New York State’s pension fund is investing money in New York businesses, helping companies large and small stay and expand in the Empire State. The state pension fund is putting money into our economy and putting New Yorkers to work. The In-State Private Equity Program is a win-win for New York. Its primary objective is to make money for the state pension fund and it has the added benefit of helping New York businesses to grow. The program has invested millions in manufacturing, high tech, telecoms, insurance and many other sectors in New York. We work with 18 investment managers to find great opportunities for the Fund throughout the state. Our In-State private equity program has been a great success. On average, our rate of return has been around 30 percent, which is a very good return for the fund, and the companies we have invested in have created over 3,000 jobs for the State's economy. So, this program really is one that keeps the fund strong and helps to grow our local economies all across New York State. Comptroller DiNapoli has nearly doubled the pool of money available to invest in New York companies, with more than one billion dollars now committed to the program. To date, more than 600 million dollars has been invested in over 200 companies through the In-State program. We look for various types of opportunities. We look for companies that are starting up, that are expanding, that are re-capitalizing, or companies that are looking to relocate to New York State from another part of the country. The In-State program has been a very successful one for our pension fund. And it shows how recycling those dollars in great investment opportunities within our own state, we can achieve that double bottom line, making money for the pension fund, for the one million members of the fund - current retirees and future retirees - and also do some good things for our regional economies all across New York State. Companies that receive investments from the State have thrived. The Comptroller recently made stops in New York City, Albany, Rochester and Long Island to highlight investments the Fund has made in companies such as Truveris, WhoSay, MovableInk, 5LINXs and Sleepy's. We still have millions of dollars available for investment.
