Office of the New York State Comptroller

Unclaimed Funds

The Office of Unclaimed Funds administers the New York State Abandoned Property Law. It is responsible for the collection, safekeeping and distribution of unclaimed funds and securities. During FY 2004-05, the Office of Unclaimed Funds received $685 million from reporting organizations and paid $135.5 million in refunds. As a Senior Abandoned Property Accounts Auditor working in the Albany or New York City office, you will participate in field audits of banks, stock transfer and paying agents, insurance companies, utilities, brokerage houses, major corporations and any other organization that may hold unclaimed funds or securities. Although our audit fieldwork is generally in the Upstate or New York metropolitan area, you can expect some out-of-state travel. As an auditor in the Office of Unclaimed Funds, you will test for compliance, be exposed to diverse EDP systems, concepts and practices and meet regularly with corporate executives.
