Employee Membership Basics
Any employee receiving salary from a participating employer may join the Retirement System. Regardless of whether an individual is full or part-time, seasonal or permanent, temporary or provisional, if the individual is an employee, he or she can become a member. To join, an employee must complete either the ERS Membership Registration form or the Police and Fire Membership Application and the employer must register that employee with us. Please note: Individuals who are engaged as independent contractors are never eligible for membership.
