Retirement Online

Getting Started for State Employers

Employment data is a key part of determining benefits for Retirement System members — and it all starts with enrolling members. In Spring 2018, we will begin streamlining the process of enrolling mandatory members with Retirement Online.

You will also use Retirement Online to:

  • Enroll new optional members
  • Receive notifications and respond to requests for information from the Retirement System
  • Manage the permissions for your contacts who do work with NYSLRS

Retirement Online will make working with NYSLRS easier, but first we’ll work together in certifying that your agency is ready to use the new Retirement Online features.

What you need to know

Transition Process

State agencies will begin using Retirement Online’s new features after completing a series of tasks that certify you are prepared and ready to use the system.

You will be assisted by a team of transition coaches. Transition coaches are NYSLRS staff members who will help guide you through the certification process. Transition coaches can be reached by contacting the Retirement Online Employer Help Desk.

What you need to do

Transition activities

We are developing a special training environment that will allow you to practice the tasks you will perform in Retirement Online. The training offerings include:

  • Virtual instructor-led training
  • Self-paced training

Certification Requirements

Our 2-step certification process will introduce you to the new enrollment process and ensure your agency is ready to begin using Retirement Online. You must complete the steps detailed below by May 2018.

Certification Levels Requirements to Complete Timeline
  • Establish the security and contact administrators for your agency
  • Contact Administrators add names of employer contacts; Security Administrators request system access for employer contacts and assign security roles
  • New employer contacts complete first-time log in to Retirement Online
Present – March 2018
  • Successfully completed Bronze certification activities
  • Complete training on enrolling a new member using Retirement Online
  • Complete training on Retirement Online notifications and corresponding system actions
February 2018 – May 2018
