Subject
Review and Update of Recall Overtime Pay for Eligible Employees in Classified and Unclassified Positions
Date Issued
April 27, 2005

Purpose

To review Recall Overtime payment procedures and introduce the new Earn Code ROU to be used to pay Recall Standby Overtime to SUNY Unclassified employees.

Affected Employees

Classified:
  Administrative Services BU02
  Operational Services BU03
  Institutional Services BU04
  Public Employees Federation BU05
Unclassified:
  United University Professions BU08

Background

An employee eligible to earn overtime compensation who is recalled to work overtime, after having completed the employee's scheduled work period and departed from the scheduled work station, is considered to have worked a minimum of one-half day for the purpose of computing overtime compensation. An employee working a 40-hour week is credited with 4 hours; an employee working a 37½ hour week is credited with 3¾ hours. This rule does not change the requirement that overtime compensation is paid only for work in excess of the basic 40-hour work week.

An employee eligible for Recall Overtime may or may not be on Standby.

An employee who is on Standby and is recalled to work is eligible to receive Standby pay for each eight (8) hours or part thereof in addition to any Recall pay. Hours paid pursuant to the Recall provision should be submitted as RCL, instead of OTA.

Note: To be eligible for the Recall provision, employees must have completed their normal shift and left the work site when recalled to work. Recall work performed must not join, coincide or overlap with the normal work day.
