DiNapoli Honors Community Leaders During Italian Heritage Celebration

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli hosted a reception in honor of Italian Heritage Month on Oct. 23 in Tuckahoe, N.Y.

DiNapoli honored five Italian-Americans for their contributions to New York:

  • David Anthony Pope, president and CEO Generoso Pope Foundation, a fourth generation philanthropic family foundation. Pope has been a community activist for over 30 years. He has spent many years developing the Westchester Italian Cultural Center as a resource for Italian-Americans to expand their knowledge of Italian history.
  • Anthony L. Capicotto, past venerable, Antonio Meucci Lodge #213, Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America. Capicotto became a builder and contractor in Calabria, Italy. When he came to the United States, he became a licensed real estate broker in the state of New York and formed the Capicotti Construction Company, followed by C&V Builders Inc. and A.C. Realty Inc. He was honored by the Society of the Museum Italo American of New York with the title ambassador of Italian community.
  • John A. DeCicco, chairman of DeCicco and Sons. He has dedicated many years by working with his family to build a premium supermarket chain in Westchester and Putnam counties.
  • Joan Prezioso, president of the Italian Welfare League since 2015 and has served on the board since 2007. She has donated over $2 million to almost 2,000 children of Italian heritage since 2001.
  • Tony Signorile, former chairman of the Bronx Columbus Day Parade. Tony was appointed chairman of the parade in 2007 and served until 2017. Under his leadership the parade became the second largest Columbus Day parade in New York State.
