Reporting Services Provided by Lawyers and Law Firms (Education Law Section 2053)

School districts and Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) are required by Education Law §2053 to annually report lawyers who provide legal services. Specifically, the law requires certain information to be filed with the Office of the Attorney General, the Office of the State Comptroller and the State Education Department. These annual reporting requirements were established by Chapter 640 of the Laws of 2008.

You must file your report using the online system created by the New York State Education Department (NYSED), Office of the Attorney General and Office of the State Comptroller. The system is available through the NYSED Business Portal. Each school district BOCES has a Delegated Administrator for the State Education Department Delegated Account System (SEDDAS). If you have been selected as the representative for your school district/BOCES and have been granted access rights by the SEDDAS Delegated Administrator at your school district/BOCES, you may log in to the New York State Education Department Application Business Portal.

Please do not submit paper forms in lieu of electronic submissions; they will not be collected or accepted. All submissions must be made through the electronic system.
