Coordinated Plan For ERS Tier 3 and 4 Members

(Articles 14 and 15)

About This Retirement Plan

This retirement plan summary describes the benefits available to Tier 3 and 4 Employees’ Retirement System members covered by the Coordinated Retirement Plan. These benefits are provided by Articles 14 and 15 of the New York State Retirement and Social Security Law (RSSL) as enacted by the New York State Legislature. Although most Tier 3 members retire under Article 15 because it provides a greater benefit for them, certain Article 14 benefits, available only to eligible Tier 3 members, are also described here. Members covered by a 20- or 25-year plan that allows retirement regardless of age should refer to the information that covers their special plan.

Throughout this publication, you will find references to “Sections” and “Articles” that refer to the RSSL. The New York State and Local Retirement System, headed by the Comptroller of the State of New York, administers this plan. Our main office is in Albany, New York.

This publication is a general summary of membership benefits, rights and responsibilities, and is not a substitute for any New York State or federal law. For specific information about your benefits, please contact us.
