State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced the appointment of former Dutchess County Comptroller Robin Lois as the Deputy Comptroller of Local Government & School Accountability.

Lois will head the division responsible for monitoring the finances of New York’s local governments and school districts. She will direct seven regional offices and a staff of more than 300 responsible for auditing and budget reviews, training local officials, monitoring local fiscal stress, and reporting on issues facing local governments and schools.

“Robin Lois has first-hand knowledge of the challenges faced by local governments and understands that strong fiscal controls are needed to ensure that government resources are used efficiently,” DiNapoli said. “I am confident she will effectively lead my efforts to hold local governments accountable for taxpayer dollars, while offering them the assistance they need to better serve their constituents.”

Lois served as Dutchess County Comptroller from 2018 until 2024 after winning her first bid for elected office in 2017. Lois was re-elected for a second term in 2021. In that role, she served as the chief accountant and auditor of the county and managed all governmental department audits, contract agency audits, vendor claim approvals, bi-weekly payroll audits, year-end closing activities, and the annual independent audit.

Lois is a certified public accountant with over 35 years of experience in accounting and finance, serving in various roles during her career, including public accounting, corporate accounting, and small business operations.

She is a graduate of Mount Saint Mary College.

She started on Jan. 4. Her annual salary is $193,589.
