Payroll Manual

Dual Employment

Dual employment occurs when an employee works a percentage of full-time in two or more payroll agencies/facilities (for example, a Chaplain who works 20% part time in 5 different Correctional facilities). The employee appears on the payroll of each agency and the combined service in all positions may not exceed 100% full time employment except on an overtime basis as explained below or on an extra-service basis.

An AC-1588 “Dual Employment/Extra Service Approval Form” must be completed by the employee and the agency head (or authorized designee) of the ORIGINAL employing agency before the employee may be hired by another agency. The approved form must be filed with OSC.

Each position in each agency is considered part-time and on its own basis. An employee is not eligible for any additional salary factors that are not payable to part-time employees. Performance evaluation, advance credit and payment dates are based on the part-time service in each position and agency.

Employees in overtime eligible positions who continuously work a percentage of full-time in two or more similar positions in several agencies and who work more than 40 hours in a work week in both positions combined are eligible for Overtime Compensation.
