Longevity Steps - Security

Longevity payments for employees in the security units is based solely on the amount of time spent in pay status as security employees. The payments are step amounts that are included on the salary chart for the separate bargaining units. Each contract agreement increases the steps accordingly. The increases are currently paid at 10, 15, 20, and 25 years.

Security (BU 01, 21, 31, 61, 91)

  • The agency must enter all payments in PayServ through a Pay Change Job Action Request using Action/Reason PAY/LGP. It is reviewed by the OSC Earnings Team and moved to the Job Data Page.
  • Longevities for employees in the Security units are based on service in security units only.
  • An unsatisfactory rating will not withhold a longevity step.
  • Time absent due to Workers' Comp and Military Leaves count as time served.
  • Payments are shown as step increases on the Salary Chart.
    • Employees whose base salary is equal to job rate will move to the next longevity step.
    • Employees whose base salary is below job rate receive the value of the longevity being credited.
  • Employees are credited with each calendar day in pay status, including Sick Leave with Pay.
  • The Anniversary Date should be adjusted for all time the employee is not in Pay status or in a bargaining unit other than security.
  • Longevity steps are payable on the first day of the pay period following completion of the required service based on the Anniversary Date unless the anniversary date is the first day of a pay period.

Note:

In October 1995 a significant change was made to the application of the longevity payment when an employee is promoted. As today, prior to October 1995, longevity steps were earned in the current grade, but when the employee was promoted the value of the longevity remained where it was earned, not in the current grade. In October 1995, the procedure changed to the current procedure of adding the value of the longevity in the promoted grade.
